The Barbados National Standards Institution (BNSI) has commenced their week of activities to mark their 50th anniversary.
Under the theme Pioneering Quality 50 Years Forward, members of the organisation on Sunday joined the congregation of St Luke’s Anglican Church in Brighton, St George, for a church service.
BNSI’s festivities coincided with the church’s Patronal Festival, and for this special occasion, the congregation had the honour of hosting the Bishop of Barbados, Rev Michael Maxwell and his wife.
After an uplifting sermon by Rev Merlene Lucas, Sandra Husbands, Minister of State in the Ministry of Energy and Business in Barbados delivered an address. She said, “As we begin World Standards Week, it is important for us to take a moment to recognise the profound impact that standards and quality assurance have on our daily lives and on the well-being of our nation.
She acknowledged, “Standards may not always be at the forefront of our minds, but they are the invisible thread that weaves through the fabric of our society. They are the benchmarks that ensure the products we use, the services we receive and the systems we depend on meet the highest levels of quality, safety, and reliability. Standards are the foundations on which trust, innovation and progress are built.”
Highlighting the importance of the Patronal Festival in our cultural heritage she said, “It is a time for us to come together as a community to celebrate our shared history and to embrace the unique cultural expressions that make our nation so special. Just as the Patronal Festival reflects the cultural diversity and vitality of Barbados, the work of the Barbados National Standards Institute is a reflection of our commitment to excellence and progress.”
She continued, “The BNSI plays a vital role in setting and upholding the standards that underpin the quality and safety of the products and services we enjoy during celebrations like Patronal throughout the year. In the Ministry of Energy and Business we understand the importance of standards in promoting sustainability, efficiency, and safety, particularly in the energy sector.”
Minister Husbands assured, “Standards guide us to work toward a greener, more sustainable energy future for Barbados.”
She said, “Let us recognise the BNSI’s role in maintaining the highest quality in everything we do. Let’s us continue to draw strength from our faith, from our culture and our shared commitment for a better Barbados.”
At the conclusion of the service Ryan Brathwaite, Chairman of the Board of Directors of BNSI expressed his gratitude for reaching this milestone. He told Barbados TODAY, “Over the last 50 years the Barbados National Standards Institution has gone from strength to strength…we look forward to implementing a lot of the plans we have in terms of enforcing and implementing our national quality infrastructure and I can say that it is an exciting journey ahead.”
