A magistrate ordered anger management counselling for Alvin Arnold Carmichael after he admitted to damaging the door of the Sol gas station in Collymore Rock, St Michael on October 13, 2023.

Magistrate Bernadeth John made the decision after hearing the facts in the matter as outlined by the court prosecutor in District ‘A’ Magistrates’ Court. The 37-year-old unemployed man of Clapham Drive, Christ Church was seen by the security guard of the establishment, which trades as K. Maycock Investment Incorporation, near the petrol pumps with bottles in his hands. The guard locked the door to bar entry as Carmichael had been banned from the station previously due to “rude behaviour”. When he realised he would not be let inside the store, Carmichael kicked the glass door, damaging it.

Stating that his intention had not been to break the door, he apologised for the incident and indicated his willingness to pay for the damages.

Magistrate John requested the virtual complainant to be in court next Monday to bring an estimate.

Carmichael had no surety and was therefore remanded to prison, with the magistrate ordering him to undergo anger management therapy.

It was then that Carmichael, who is known to the court, struck the side of the dock in which he was standing.

“You see what I mean? This is exactly why you need anger management counselling; because things are not going your way, you react like this. Just like how you reacted when you hit the people’s door,” John said.

The matter was adjourned until October 23, 2023.
