On Saturday, as Massy Stores Supermarket Sky Mall became the third location where the option is now available, Wright, responding to public concerns, made it abundantly clear that the machines are not intended to replace cashiers. “If you come to any of our stores, the same cashiers that were always there are there. I understand the fear of technology and the fear of change, but that is not what we are about. We are here to give our customers a different option. “If they want to go to their favourite cashier or their favourite checkout, they are very free to do that; they are still here with us; they are still here to serve you. If you want to go through the fast lane and serve yourself, that’s also an option,” Wright said. Wright said though it has only been weeks since the self-checkout machines were rolled out for the first time at Massy SuperCentre Warrens, Barbadians, young and old, have been utilising the machines.
