It was a proud moment for several students at Arthur Smith Primary School on Tuesday when they were acknowledged for their leadership abilities and either received prefect badges or joined the ranks of the school’s student council board.

The Pleasant Hall Land, St Mathias, Christ Church school established 24 prefects and 14 members of the student council with the head girl and head boy being Alisah Roberts and Dachea Archer, respectively, and their deputies being Joshua Wharton and Lily Smith.

During the installation ceremony, guest speaker Pastor Gershon Forde challenged the students to be the example they wanted to see, as their peers were looking up to them.

Former Minister of Education Ronald Jones also gave the children words of encouragement. He told them that leaders were not born but developed skills along the way that helped them personify leadership characteristics.

He added that there would be successes and challenges along their journey and advised them not to interpret a problem as a failure but to instead use it as a lesson.

Jones also told the school leaders that they had great responsibility and not to take it lightly, pointing out that they must have a vision for their new role in school and give of their best.

Acting principal John Quinton congratulated the students and wished them well on their new journey.
