Inconsistent batting by Barbados Pride at crucial stages during the Cricket West Indies CG United Super50 Cup tournament in Trinidad proved their undoing in the semi-finals as they lost by 155 runs to the Leeward Islands Hurricanes yesterday.

Chasing 291 to win at the Brian Lara Cricket Academy, Barbados were bundled out for 135 in 30.2 overs.

All-rounder Roston Chase hit the top-score of 35 off 36 balls with three fours and one six at No.6.

Pacer and captain Alzarri Joseph took three for 30 off five overs and left-arm spinner Daniel Doram, three for 33 off 10 overs.

Lifted by three half-centuries, the Leeward Islands made 290 all out in 49.4 overs after winning the toss. Player-of-the-Match Jahmar Hamilton scored 76 off 61 balls including six fours and four sixes, the in-form Barbadian Justin Greaves 63 (76 balls, 5 fours) and Hayden Walsh 57 (45 balls, 1 four and five sixes).

Off-spinner Kemar Smith grabbed a career-best five for 43 off 10 overs in his fifth List A match.

The Leeward Islands must be commended for their showing leading into the final against favourites Trinidad & Tobago tomorrow.

And Greaves has warmed many hearts with his consistent form, which has led to him boasting of the most runs in the tournament (391) at an average of 97.75. In the preliminary phase, he also stood out against Barbados with an unbeaten 95 as Leeward Islands won by four wickets.

One of the major disappointments for Barbados was West Indies Test captain and opener Kraigg Brathwaite, who managed only 107 runs in six innings (Ave: 17.83).

Much more was expected as well from captain Shai Hope, who is also the West Indies One-Day International skipper and another international, Shamarh Brooks.

Hope was the top run scorer for Barbados (219 runs), including two half-centuries (Ave: 36.50) and Brooks 199, also with two fifties (Ave: 28.42).

All-rounder Kyle Mayers and Zachary McCaskie each hit a century and were the top two in the averages.

All-format international player Mayers finished with 188 runs (Ave: 47.00) and McCaskie 160 (Ave: 40.00).

Chase, another international all-rounder, scored 166 (Ave: 27.66).

Barbados’ problems were compounded by the fact that three of their all-rounders – Roshon Primus, Raymon Reifer and Smith – did not make any significant contributions. Primus scored 61 runs (Ave: 15.25), Reifer 34 (Ave: 11.33) and Smith 18 (Ave: 4.50).

The other Barbados batting statistics were: Akeem Jordan 54 (Ave: 27.00); Jomel Warrican 50 (Ave: 25.00); Dominic Drakes 60 (Ave: 15.00); Javed Leacock 5 (Ave: 5.00) and Jair McAllister 1 (Ave: 0.50).

Off-spinner Chase was the top wicket-taker with 16 scalps (Ave: 21.18; Econ: 4.77).

The other figures in order of wickets were: Smith 9 (Ave: 19.88; Econ: 4.47); Drakes 9 (Ave: 26.77; Econ: 4.60); Leacock 8 (Ave: 24.37; Econ: 6.19); McAllister 5 (Ave: 25.00; Econ: 5.00); Reifer 5 (Ave: 36.60; Econ: 5.22); Primus 3 (Ave: 19.33; Econ: 5.11); Warrican 3 (Ave: 66.00: Econ: 3.86); Mayers 2 (Ave: 60.50; Econ: 5.04); Jordan 1 (Ave: 155.00; Econ: 7.04).

Fielding: Hope 10 catches; Primus 7; Jordan 5; Chase, Brooks 4; Brathwaite, Drakes, McCaskie 3; Smith, Leacock, McAllister 2; Mayers, Reifer 1.
