Share FacebookTwitterLinkedinWhatsappEmail 339 The joy of Christmas flickered to life with a warm glow at Ilaro Court as the Rotary Club of Barbados returned to the grounds of the Prime Ministerโs official residence for the annual Carols by Candlelight on Sunday evening. The concert, which has been running for the past 28 years, has a loyal following and this yearโs massive crowd was no exception. From the moment the gates opened at 3 p.m., there was a consistent stream of patrons flowing into the venue. Those looking to beat the rush were entertained by Phoenix Steel as they secured their spots. They were followed by the amalgamation of Trumpetboy Entertainment and Euphony Steel Orchestra who weaved their way through the crowd creating a lively atmosphere. Though the rain seemed certain to fall, attendees were saved from any potential downpours, only getting slight trickles. As the sun set, the tiny points of candlelight carpeted the grounds, creating an idyllic glow. The entertainment lineup catered to every taste. The children were awestruck by dancer Stefanie Takei-Taylor who was joined by Mahalia Cummins for Let It Go from the popular soundtrack of the Disney movie, Frozen. Dressed in a sparkling costume, her graceful pirouettes enthralled the young audience members. Backed by the Festival Band, the calypsonians added their touch to the event, showing themselves in a different light. Mr Dale was melodic with Every Year, Every Christmas, while Quon serenaded with Calypso Noel. Bumbaโs offering was his festival staple Why Canโt This Christmas Feeling Go On. Adrian Clarke led the audience in a singalong session, featuring such well-loved holiday tunes as The Christmas Song; I Saw Mommy Kissing Santa Claus; O Come, All Ye Faithful; Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer and Frosty the Snowman. The atmosphere peaked with jubilation as Santa Claus made his entrance. A frenzy ensued as the little ones rushed to snag a treat from his bag of goodies. Reggae enthusiasts enjoyed Rhesa Garnesโs rendition of Do You Hear What I Hear, while gospel lovers were treated to Paula Hindsโ flawless rendition of Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas. She was joined by Jamaican singer/songwriter Damian Porter on vocals. Kweku Jelaniโs soulful trumpet on Merry Christmas Baby added another dimension to the eclectic cast.
