Even though the crowd was noticeably smaller compared to years gone by, scores of people descended into Queen’s Park earlier this morning to take part in the annual Christmas festivities.

Barbadians dressed in their finest ventured to the popular City spot to mingle and enjoy the entertainment by the versatile Barbados Police Service Band, Promise and others.

People came out in droves with their loved ones, some in coordinated outfits and others in show-stopping designer wear.

The Barbados Police Service Band thoroughly entertained the crowd.

Even though the crowd was shy of the hundreds that you would typically expect to see, it did not take away from the lively and warm atmosphere.

Some of the usual faces in the park included the Dappers of Queen’s Park, a group of mature men who, each year, dress in high fashioned three-piece suits with matching canes and extravagant matching shoes.

They usually light up the park with their style from the time they enter. This year they featured three young men as part of the group who are expected to carry on their legacy.

Several tourists, who visited the park for the first time on Christmas Day, expressed their amazement at the festivities. They said they enjoyed the ambience, the music and the outfits that many wore.

Some people did not wear the traditional glitz and glam outfits, opting instead for semi-formal and casual outfits

One of the highlights of the event was the performance by 11-year-old Chelsea Cadogan-Goddard. She received a loud round of applause and cheers from spectators who were impressed by the power of her voice compared to her small stature.
