Official funeral with military honours for Grantley Watson

Former Commissioner of Police and Executive Director of the Regional Security System, Grantley Sylvester Watson, will be accorded an Official Funeral with Military Honours on Friday, March 8.

The service will be held at the St. Thomas Parish Church, Arch Hall, St. Thomas, from 1 p.m.

On the day of the funeral service, the procession will leave Paramount Funeral Home, Hindsbury Road, St. Michael, turn left onto Station Hill, proceed along Waterford Boulevard, onto the Barrow Section of the ABC Highway, continuing to the Ronald Mapp Highway and onto the church.

Following the service, the military procession will travel along the Ronald Mapp Highway to Mile-and-a-Quarter, St. Peter, where the troops will form up at Benn Hill for a 1.5 km procession to Mount Pleasant Memorial Gardens, Pleasant Hall, St. Peter, for the interment.

The Barbados Police Service has advised that the road will be closed to traffic for approximately 20 minutes until the procession passes. Motorists are advised to follow the directions of on duty police officers in uniform.

On Thursday, March 7, there will be a “Vigil Day” in the Prince Cave Hall, Police Band Headquarters, District ‘A’ Complex, Station Hill, St. Michael, from 2 to 6 p.m., where the public will get the opportunity to view the body of the late former Commissioner of Police and sign the condolence book.

Condolence books will also be available for signing at the St. Thomas Parish Church, on the day of the funeral.

Mr. Watson died on Saturday, February 3, at the age of 80. He served as the island’s Commissioner of Police from 1995 to 2003 and was the Executive Director of the Regional Security System from October 2003 to January 2017. (BGIS)
