An excited Smith could not contain her excitement after her 5-year-old USA-bred gelding Portfolio Company produced a tremendous effort to capture her fourth Gold Cup title at the Garrison Savannah on Saturday. The victory added to the owner’s previous wins with Thady Quill (2003), Sharp Impact (2006) and Zoom in 2011. In an interview with Barbados TODAY moments after watching Portfolio Company hold off a stern challenge from Cash Equity to win the race, Smith could not contain her excitement. “I’m ecstatic. It’s just amazing and I’ve won a fourth Gold Cup. My family is here, my daughter, granddaughter, grandson and obviously my husband and friends are here. It’s just unbelievable,” she said. Smith, who also owns Jerry The Nipper, which came into the race as the clear favourite, said she was happy that Antonio Bishop was able to guide Portfolio Company to victory. “Anton is my stable jockey and he has been with me for years so I’m just so pleased that Anton won on Portfolio,” she added.
