Guardsman Barbados celebrates 20 years

Guardsman Barbados Ltd commemorated its 20th anniversary of operations on the island with a celebratory dinner on Saturday night.

Delivering the welcome remarks, General Manager Hurtado Mitchell said, “It is a matter of great pride to see our company Guardsman Barbados Ltd growing, embracing good value systems and achieving more than what we ever thought of. Who could have envisioned that one man and two dogs could have evolved into all of this!” 

Mitchell credited the employees with being the backbone of Guardsman’s success, adding, “A team can perform best only when it is united.”

Vinay Walia, Group Managing Director, Guardsman Group, affirmed that their scope extends far beyond being a security and cash management company. He stated, “At our core we are a technology organisation, what this means is that we provide the latest and best available technology solutions to help our clients meet their needs.” Walia noted, “We have brought never before seen technology to our clients and have created a technological platform in operations that are unrivalled in that area.”

He revealed that through a new subsidiary, they will be partnering with governments across the Caribbean to create education labs introducing people as young as nine years old to the world of A.I. and illustrate how they can use it in all areas of their life. 

Walia shared, “All eight subsidiaries are singularly focused on one goal for our clients and that is to save their companies time and money.”

Also addressing attendees was founder and Executive Chairman of the Guardsman Group, Kenneth Benjamin. He pledged their continued commitment to leading in investment and innovation as he emphasised their dedication to diversification and staying ahead in the industry by embracing new technologies and markets.

Reflecting on the company’s journey, Benjamin said, “We take solace in the fact that we have weathered tough waters before and prepare to navigate any challenges that come in our way including emerging threats like cybercrime, the A.I technology- artificial intelligence which is fast approaching us.” 

Colin Jordan, Minister of Labour, Social Security, and the Third Sector, extended gratitude on behalf of the government of Barbados. He said, “We salute your work, we congratulate you on reaching the milestone of 20 years and we wish that we will continue to have a partnership that allows you to continue your investment and your building your team.”

Long-serving past and present members of the company were recognised for their contribution to the organisation’s success. Acknowledgement was given to those whose tenure with the organisation exceeded a decade. Honorary mention was made to Dale Cato who throughout his 18 years of service has maintained an unblemished record with both perfect attendance and punctuality. He was presented with a gift compliments Digicel while Marco Clarke was presented with a gift compliments Flow for embodying the culture of the organisation.

A posthumous award for 15 years of dedicated service was presented to Issac Greenidge on behalf of his late father Ian Greenidge. A moment of silence was observed to honour his memory.
