His 22 previous convictions and lack of a home address have led to theft accused Rodney Sinclair Odle being remanded to Dodds for the next four weeks.

The 46-year-old was denied bail when he appeared in the District ‘A’ Traffic Court on Wednesday and pleaded not guilty to four theft charges.

These are: that between March 22 and 23, having
entered the building of Carlos Alexander as a trespasser, he stole four packs of carrots and potatoes valued at $46; that between March 16 and 23, having entered the building of Erskin Forde as a trespasser, he stole one scale valued at $130; that between March 20 and 21, having entered the building known as Shaneilla’s Creation as a trespasser, he stole one six-pack of malt, one six-pack of plus, macaroni, olive oil, butter and other food and drink items along with household goods, with a total value of $809 belonging to Rebecca Gittens; and that between September 23 and 27, 2023, having entered the building known as Clarke’s Mart, he stole 61 bottles of detergent, 54 bottles of dishwashing liquid, 45 bottles of disinfectant and other cleaning and household items, totaling $4 288, belonging to Yulander Williams-Clarke.

Objecting to bail, prosecutor Sergeant Verdon Forde pointed to Odle’s antecedents, 17 of which are similar and fall under the Theft Act, the strength of the evidence against him in the four cases, and his lack of an address.

In his defence, Odle told the court that he was willing to abide by bail conditions such as a curfew or having to report to a police station. He also gave a Goodland, St Michael address, stating that he lived there with his mother and siblings.

However, one of the investigating officers revealed that a check had been made at that address, and Odle’s relatives were insistent that he did not reside there.

Magistrate Alison Burke remanded him into custody until May 8.
