A new range of exotic marinades was recently launched by the Barbadian brand Superb Blend at a beachside event at the Bougainvillea Resort in Maxwell, Christ Church. The quartet of sauces aims to blend superb flavours while capturing the culinary creativity for which the nearly 30-year-old firm has become renowned.

“Jays Enterprises, as you all know, is known for its authentic Bajan traditional products. However, today we are embarking on a journey to the future with our new exotic marinades to create new memories and traditions,” said De-onn Sargeant, the brand’s marketing manager.

With husband-and-wife team Ingrid and Jeffrey Brathwaite at the helm, the new offering maintains the richness of Grandma’s traditional recipes passed down over five generations, CEO Ingrid Brathwaite said. The marinades, which pair with pork, chicken, beef, fish and vegetables, are currently available at Massy and Popular supermarkets.

At the launch, chef Creig Greenidge showcased how the sauces could be incorporated into meals, including a succulently marinated pork sandwich served in freshly baked salt bread mimicking a pig’s face. The range also allows for infusing the brand’s spices and syrups.

Focused on minimising sugar and providing salt-free options, the marinades cater to health-conscious consumers while guaranteeing tantalising tastes, said Brathwaite.

“We guarantee that these four marinades are all-natural, they meet the criteria for healthy eating, and it is our conscientious effort that these products be viewed as a shift in the right direction,” the CEO said.

The sauces are manufactured at Jay’s Enterprises location in Wildey Industrial Park, St Michael.

Alicia Alleyne, speaking on behalf of Minister in the Ministry of Finance and Economic Affairs Ryan Straughn, said the centre allows small businesses to massively scale up HACCP-compliant production.

She said: “With the company, now you can produce up to 10 000 units in an hour, and that gives you a resource to increase your scale and also the marketability of the products because everything produced at this centre is HACCP compliant and also complies with international standards of labelling and nutritional tests.”

She added: “In our charge to market Barbados on a global scale, we believe that entrepreneurs such as yourself, you have a clear role to play in being ambassadors for Barbados.”

Jason Belle of partner Starcom Network praised the “innovators” and “local persons who dare with their innovation, their creativity, their adherence to grandma traditions” to create “a product, a service that can stand up at and hold its own against the very best that the world has to offer”.
