St Judes outscores St Matthew’s

St Jude’s Primary was outstanding, leading 2-0 at halftime and ultimately securing a 5-0 victory against St Matthew’s Primary, as the National Sports Council Primary Schools’ Netball Competition continued on Friday.

Two matches were played in Zone Three, named in honour of national netball stalwarts Angela Gibbs and Anna Shepherd, at Bridgefield in St Thomas.

St Jude’s Primary’s goal shooter Zahara Williams and goal attack Cassidy Goodridge were instrumental in their team’s victory, sharing the goals between them. Their defence was equally unstoppable, preventing St Matthew’s Primary from scoring and effectively shutting down their offensive efforts.

However, St Jude’s faced a tougher challenge against Wilkie Cumberbatch Primary. Despite their strong performance earlier, they were easily defeated 4-1.

At halftime, Wilkie Cumberbatch held a narrow 2-1 lead, which they extended by scoring two additional goals in the second half to secure the win.

Wilkie Cumberbatch’s goal shooter Niah Weekes was particularly effective, registering three goals, while goal attack Jaaliyah Griffith contributed one. Their combined efforts resulted in a total of four goals from seven attempts, showcasing their efficient scoring ability.

Meanwhile, in other matches played on Thursday in Zone One, named in honour of veterans Sonya Knight and Inez Taylor, Roland Edwards Primary, Good Shepherd Primary, and All Saints Primary recorded wins at Speightstown.

First on the court was Roland Edwards Primary, securing a 2-1 victory over Selah Primary. This win was spearheaded by goal shooter Tielle Hinds, who scored both goals for Roland Edwards, while Selah Primary’s lone goal was scored by goal shooter Dy’mond Inniss.

Good Shepherd Primary convincingly defeated Elliott Belgrave Primary with a score of 3-0. Goal shooter Celia Dowridge was in excellent form, netting all three goals from five attempts.

However, the most dominant performance of the day came from All Saints Primary who overwhelmed St Alban’s Primary with a decisive 9-2 victory.

Goal shooter Karis Burnham-Hinds was outstanding, successfully converting nine of her 12 attempts, while goal attack Zaria Harewood added the remaining two goals.
