The 26-year-old turned in her fourth-best time ever last weekend at the Jamaica National Trials. The two-time World Championships bronze medallist ran 49.80 seconds at the National Stadium in Kingston, her fourth time ever going under 50 seconds. Ahead of her was Nickisha Pryce, whose run of 49.63 was her third-fastest ever. As an overseas athlete, Williams was unable to participate in the final of the event. But the MVP Track Club quarter-miler will have done enough to convince onlookers that she is rounding into shape ahead of the Paris Games. It was Williams’ first sub-50 this season, which is noteworthy. But she has never run anywhere close to this fast in June. Only at the World Championships in 2022 and 2023, at which she captured third place, has she ever run faster. Barbados Today Stay informed and engaged with our digital news platform.
