Barbados playing from behind against T&T

The Signia Globe Financial Inc. Barbados are in a spot of bother against Trinidad and Tobago (T&T) on day one of the West Indies Rising Stars Men’s U17 two-day competition at the Inshan Ali playing field.

Barbados dismissed Trinidad for a modest score of 121 but failed to get going with the bat and were reduced to a total of 96 all out in their first innings. In their second time at bat, the home team reached 13/0 to hold a 38 run lead going into day two.

Winning the toss and asking T&T to bat first, the Bajan bowlers were able to make an early breakthrough with the wicket of Darius Batoosingh as he was caught by Demarko Wiggins off the bowling of Shaquan Belle for two.

Fastbowler Damani Roach picked up the next three wickets, removing Samir Saroop for 12 along with Brendan Boodoo and Jayden Kent, both for nought as Trinidad stumbled to 23/4.

Jakeem Pollard joined in on the action as he took two consecutive wickets, Fareez Ali (two) and opening batter Joseph Mendoza (17). Score now 44/6.

With the total on 64, Xaundre Baptiste picked up the seventh wicket of the innings when he removed AS Basant for 10.

Off Spinner Khomari Griffith brought an end to the Trinidad batting at 121 when he picked off the final three wickets, Aaidan Racha for 13, top scorer Christian Lall for 48 and Qadeer Juman for six.

In their turn at the crease, Barbados lost Zachary Carter in the second over when he was out caught for eight. Demarko Wiggins was next to go for 13 (37/2), quickly followed by captain Joshua Dorne for 19, score now 42/3.

After a 21 run partnership between Micah Greenidge and Kevion Newton, both batters lost their wickets after reaching double figures of 12 and 10 respectively, 66/5.

Belle was the only other batter in double digits as he was out for 13, the final five wickets fell for only 12 runs as Barbados were bowled out for 96.

Brendan Boodoo took 5/37 for the T&T boys while AS Basant picked up 3/24.
