Local NewsPolitics Worrell: DLP to announce new date for ballot voting soon by Ryan Gilkes 25/08/2024 written by Ryan Gilkes Updated by Barbados Today 25/08/2024 2 min read A+A- Reset Share FacebookTwitterLinkedinWhatsappThreadsBlueskyEmail 1.3K Acting President Andre Worrell says the Democratic Labour Party (DLP) plans to keep its members informed, promising to announce a new date for the ballot voting soon. “We will come back to the members with the date for voting by ballot,” he told reporters at a press conference during the break on day two of the party’s annual conference. A decision had been taken to suspend the voting process concerning the election of six members to its general council. This decision comes in light of a complaint that was forwarded to the data commissioner, which the party had not previously received. Worrell said, “Yesterday, the party took the decision to suspend the voting process. To postpone it. We are voting for six persons to sit on the general council.” He explained that the complaint that had been filed by Theodora Corbin last week prompted the party to exercise caution: “That issue came about because of the complaint that was sent to the data commissioner. That complaint was never sent to the party.” You Might Be Interested In GUYANA – Legislator who brought down gov’t may have committed treason Make them cops Increased police powers vindicated, says DLP president He revealed Data Commissioner Lisa Greaves had informed the party of the complaint on Friday and provided a response. “So, out of an abundance of caution, we decided not to use the electronic voting at that time,” the acting president noted. Additionally, he mentioned the timing of the ballot voting, affirming, “We decided that we will postpone.” Worrell also addressed questions about the decision-making process behind restricting entry, emphasizing that those barred had been directly involved in the disruptions. “We cannot put our members through this,” he asserted. “Members felt intimidated by their actions… We want an orderly conference that people can come and participate in.” He added that while dissenting views are welcome, they must be expressed in an orderly manner.
