Ryan Forde, CEO of the Barbados Hotel and Tourism Association (BHTA), said that because gastronomy tourism has been a cornerstone of Barbados’ tourism product, local chefs and mixologists must always be on top of their game. “The BHTA, alongside its members, have led a drive to develop and market our culinary options and experts throughout the year alongside our tourism partners,” Forde said at the national competition draw at the Island Inn Hotel, Aquatic Gap, Bay Street on Monday. The competition comes as Barbados aims to maintain its reputation as a leading culinary destination in the Caribbean. Known for its rum production and local cuisine, the island has previously won awards at regional contests and global rum competitions. Local restaurants and hotels play a key role in showcasing Barbadian cuisine, with many participating in events like the Food and Rum Festival. These efforts, according to Forde, contribute significantly to the island’s tourism appeal and visitor experiences. Two main golden talking points of Barbados for the repeat guest are our people and our culinary diversity,” he said. Winners will represent Barbados at the Miami event from November 18-20, competing against other Caribbean nations.
