A second, bold, execution-style slaying for the week claimed the life of a 27-year-old man on Thursday – shot dead in a brazen attack during morning rush hour, marking the 33rd homicide this year and leaving residents shocked by the escalating violence.

Dominic Yarde of St Patrick’s, Christ Church, was driving towards the Aberdeen Centre along Gall Hill when he was pursued by a lone gunman who approached from a side road, according to police.

Assistant Superintendent Victor Brewster told reporters at the scene that Yarde attempted to flee his attacker but collided with two other vehicles, including a route taxi travelling in the opposite direction. His car overturned, landing on its right side.

“The assailant then went toward the vehicle, discharged a number of shots and fled the scene,” Brewster said.

Residents rushed to assist Yarde, pulling him from the wreckage, but he was pronounced dead at the scene by a medical doctor. No passengers on the route taxi were injured.

The incident, which occurred in full view of morning commuters, has heightened concerns about public safety.

“These acts are too much now, it has to stop,” said one woman at the scene, while another remarked: “This is getting out of hand.”

A male eyewitness recounted the chaotic moment: “I just heard the shots and look and see the car was turned over.”

The brazen nature of the attack in a busy public area has intensified fears about the rising tide of murderous attacks. Police have appealed to anyone with information about the incident to come forward.

On Monday night, Kyle Irvin Haynes, known as Wildout of Dear’s Land, was slain when two masked gunmen opened fire on a group of men gathered at a house in Murray Land, Black Rock.  Haynes was found motionless on the ground, the victim of multiple gunshot wounds.

Last week, the Gall Hill-Silver Hill area, the scene of the latest slaying, was rocked by gunfire that left a 12-year-old girl wounded.

A man dressed in black exited a car that had driven through Gall Hill and sprayed two public housing units with bullets, witnesses said. The child was hit during the shooting, which also sent other children fleeing for their lives.

Witnesses to Thursday’s homicide have been urged to call the emergency number at 211, the Oistins Police Station at 418 2612, or Crime Stoppers at 1 800 8477 (TIPS). (LG)
