She announced her resignation in a letter addressed to the party’s Acting General Secretary Pedro Shepherd on Monday. Trotman, an attorney-at-law, said her decision came after careful consideration of the recent changes in leadership and the party’s overall direction. “I have always valued the principles and values that the Democratic Labour Party has represented. However, I have found that the new leadership and strategic direction no longer align with my personal beliefs or the ideals that initially drew me to the party,” she said. “While I appreciate the efforts of those who continue to work towards the party’s goals, I believe it is in my best interest to step away at this time.
