In a statement issued by Acting President Stephen Lashley, the partyโs executive, general council and membership extended sincere condolences to Sir Emileโs family, friends, and the wider music fraternity. The DLP praised Sir Emileโs contribution to Barbadian music, noting that as a vocalist, guitarist, and prolific composer with the internationally renowned Merrymen, he consistently showcased the best of the islandโs talent for decades. โHis voice can be heard rendering several genres of music, including folk, calypso, reggae, ballads and spouge, and he must be credited for bringing folk music to the forefront during the seventies.โ The party described his passing as a significant loss, adding that Barbados has lost a true musical icon whose legacy will endure for generations. Sir Emile, lead singer and co-founder of the Merrymen, died on Friday, leaving behind a rich musical heritage that helped define Barbadosโ sound on the world stage.
