Lawyer denies drug charges, co-accused pleads guilty

Attorney-at-law George Adolphus Bennett appeared before the High Court on Thursday and denied several charges including drugs.

However, his co-accused, Guyanese national Dharma Rudradeo who is on remand at Dodds, pleaded guilty to possession of 252.59 kilogrammes of cannabis on July 30, 2021 and having possession with intent to traffic the illicit substance.

Bennett, of No. 103, 1st Avenue Warners Gardens, Christ Church, pleaded not guilty to the two drug charges as well as to possession of 19 rounds of ammunition without a valid permit and obstructing and assaulting Sergeants Fabian Griffith and Erica Maynard, on the mentioned date, as they executed their duties.

Justice Randall Worrell set November 27 as a trial date for Bennett’s seven matters. He remains on bail.

Rudradeo, meanwhile, will reappear before the No. 2 Supreme Court on October 15. The judge has ordered a pre-sentence report on his life, a report on the time he has spent on remand at Dodds, and his conviction record, if any.

Director of Public Prosecutions Donna Babb-Agard SC and State Counsel Maya Kellman are prosecuting the case.

Senior Counsel Angella Mithcell-Gittens is representing Bennett while Rudradeo has Ajamu Boardi as his attorney-at-law.
