The incident occurred as officers from the Anti-Gun and Tactical Response Units were executing a search warrant for firearms at a shop at Odessa McClean Drive, My Lord’s Hill, St Michael around 6:05 p.m. According to police, when the officers arrived at the scene, people who were gathered in the area of the shop ran away, with most of them running to a bushy area located on the western side. “The persons or persons who ran to the bushy area opened fire on the police,” Acting Communications and Public Affairs Officer Sergeant Liesl Gabriel told reporters at the scene. “One of the officers returned fire at the assailant who continued running and later collapsed. Police officers went to render assistance and called for medical assistance via the ambulance service….” The deceased, a male, was pronounced dead by a medical doctor. Investigations are continuing.
