The Barbados Meteorological Services (BMS) said this is due to “a strengthening Atlantic high-pressure system generating strong winds, causing above-normal swell heights.” A NOAA buoy east of Barbados has recorded swells between 3.0 and 3.5 meters (10-11.5 feet), which are expected to persist through the weekend. Small craft operators should be prepared for large open-water swells that may be hazardous to some vessels. The BMS also advised beachgoers to exercise caution and use beaches with lifeguards on duty. The BMS said the advisory will be updated at 6:00 p.m. on Saturday, February 15, 2025, or sooner if conditions change Barbados Today Stay informed and engaged with our digital news platform.
