Share FacebookTwitterLinkedinWhatsappEmail 1.9K Agrofest, the annual agricultural showcase, is set to expand with a 20 per cent increase in exhibitors and Venezuela joining Guyana in sending delegations, while organisers promise enhanced security measures for the family-friendly event. On a site visit, Chief Executive Officer of the Barbados Agricultural Society James Paul said the event will have 50 more exhibitors this year compared with 250 showcased last year. Paul said his team wanted to enhance the visitor experience through increased social media engagement and interactive activities. Delegations from Venezuela and Guyana are expected to display a wide variety of items, fostering cultural exchange and economic opportunities. “We want every patron to have an unforgettable experience and come back year after year,” he said. Agrofest will return to Queen’s Park from February 21 to 23 under the theme of Saving the Future Through Agriculture. The event aims to celebrate and strengthen Barbados’ agriculture while preserving its cultural heritage, said Paul, emphasising the significance of Queen’s Park as the historic venue for the exhibition over the years. We must be careful not to erase our history,” he declared, adding that preparations were on track and his team was ensuring the event maintained high standards. “Every Agrofest presents its own challenges but we are committed to delivering an event that resonates with Barbadians for years to come.” He also highlighted that tougher security measures will be in place: “This is a family-friendly event, and we are dedicated to maintaining a safe space for all attendees”. Agrofest will coincide with the mid-term school break, the BAS head noted as he appealed to parents to bring their children to an educational and fun exhibition. He said it was also an opportunity for students to showcase their talents and creativity. “Many of our exhibitors, especially in the livestock category, started as students who visited Agrofest,” said Paul. “This event is key to inspiring the next generation of agricultural leaders.” (SZB) Some of the major sponsors at this morning’s site visit for Agrofest 2025.
