Barbados to deepen ties with India

Barbados is set to strengthen its commercial ties with India as it continues to expand its diplomatic footprint globally.

This announcement was made by the Minister of Foreign Affairs and Foreign Trade, Kerry Symmonds, during a brief ceremony at which the Honorary Freedom of Barbados Award was presented to India’s Prime Minister, His Excellency Shri Narendra Modi.

President Dame Sandra Mason presented the award to Pabitra Margherita, India’s Minister of State for External Affairs, on behalf of Prime Minister Modi. The event was attended by Prime Minister Mia Mottley and officials from both countries.
Symmonds highlighted the shared commitment between Barbados and India to address global challenges, particularly in the areas of climate change and healthcare.

In his remarks, Margherita expressed his gratitude to Prime Minister Mottley for the award and praised her leadership. He described Mottley’s emphatic and decisive actions as key in strengthening international ties and fostering collaboration among nations.

Looking ahead, Margherita expressed hope for continued cooperation between Barbados and India, aiming to build a more resilient and prosperous future for both nations.

Barbados and India have enjoyed diplomatic relations since November 30, 1966. (LG)
