Thief’s sentence hinges on proof of claimed certification

A 36-year-old man with 46 prior convictions was remanded to Dodds Prison until March 14.

Jason Callender, of Grazettes Main Road, St Michael, will return to District ‘A’ Magistrates’ Court on that date, with a surety to sign bail, so he can provide proof of a certificate for elderly care. He claims to have obtained the certification during a three-year programme at the Samuel Jackson Prescod Institute of Technology.

Magistrate Manila Renee told Callender that the certificate would play a role in her decision on sentencing, after he confessed to stealing a light bulb worth $23.59 and a light fitting valued at $104.04 from Carter’s and Company Limited on Thursday.
