Authorities were forced into action early this morning after some residents occupying light-gauge steel homes in Tichbourne, St Michael, which were constructed under the government’s East-West Project, complained of a water leak.

Minister of Housing Dwight Sutherland said the problem stemmed from a broken line beneath a kitchen sink in one of the units of the upper block, which caused water to seep into another unit on the lower level.

The resident was reportedly asleep at the time and unaware of the broken line.

Officials from the National Housing Corporation and the Ministry of Housing and Lands quickly responded.

Minister Sutherland said reports of a collapsed roof or structural damage were untrue and the affected tenants did not require alternative accommodation. (BT)
