A 22-year-old man who assaulted his mother and damaged her belongings has refused to apologise for his actions, even after being ordered to compensate her.

Dominic Orlando Cummins, of Storey Gap, Codrington Hill, St Michael, pleaded guilty in the District ‘A’ Traffic Court on Wednesday to unlawfully and maliciously inflicting serious bodily harm on his mother, Janelle Vaughn, on November 12, 2024.

The general worker also admitted that he damaged his mother’s mobile phone during the same incident, intending to do so, or was reckless as to whether the phone would be damaged.

The court ordered him to pay the $220 cost of the device, which he did.

However, Magistrate Alison Burke ordered Cummins to pay his mother $1v527 in special and general damages for pain, injury, and impaired vision. He has four months to make the payment and is scheduled to return to court on August 22.

When asked by the magistrate whether he wished to apologise to his mother, Cummins bluntly replied, “No,” without offering any reason.
