Taking the witness stand as Osbourne’s murder trial continued in the No. 4 Supreme Court, Shae Coulthrust said she went to her then-boyfriend’s home in Lower Bridge Gap, Cave Hill, St Michael, to meet his family for the first time. She said that during the night, after they fell asleep, his mother entered the room calling his name “frantically”, saying, “Calvin, you believe he hit me in my face and make me walk all de way from St Lucy?” Coulthrust recalled that the woman was upset and her face appeared “a bit swollen”. “Calvin just brush her off saying, ‘Mummy, I sleeping. Leave me alone.’ …. After that, he realised how serious it was and went outside and looked at her face. Gregory was already at home, and she went into the bedroom. And I am not sure what exactly happened, but (Adams) came out and he was upset. His face was bleeding,” the witness testified. Coulthrust said the argument escalated between Osbourne’s mother and Adams, who threatened to burn down the house. I am not sure if they would have impacted him, but that is when things got a bit more aggressive. He went back into the bedroom and came back out with a pretty long blade. It had a white handle, and it was silver,” she recounted. She described how Adams began advancing towards Osbourne and his mother, prompting a fight between the two men that spilled outside the house. “I remember seeing Calvin holding Gregory’s hand and as they were fighting, I remember Gregory having Calvin in a headlock with his left hand around his neck and his right hand with the knife close to his neck,” she said, adding that at that point she ran around the house to try to get help from neighbours. Coulthrust said that when she returned, Adams was lying on the ground “gasping for breath.” Under cross-examination by defence attorney Sian Lange, she said she believed Osbourne’s life was in danger when she saw Adams fighting him while holding the knife. “When you said ‘I thought Calvin was going to be gone in that moment’, what did you mean?” Lange asked. “Dead,” the witness replied. She added that Osbourne had been wearing only boxers during the altercation and only got dressed before going to the police station. Acting Director of Public Prosecutions Alliston Seale SC and State Counsel Maya Kellman are prosecuting the case before Madam Justice Laurie-Ann Smith-Bovell and a 12-member jury.
