Moesha Kadijah Clarke, of Thornbury Hill, will return to the No. 1 District ‘A’ Magistrates’ Court later this month to be sentenced for doing acts preparatory for the purpose of trafficking in the controlled drug and with unlawfully importing cannabis. Both offences occurred on May 12. The court heard that Clarke went to a freight handling facility to collect a barrel in her name and presented documents for its release. A search of the container uncovered several vacuum-sealed packages of cannabis weighing 23.01 pounds with an estimated street value of $84 000. Defence attorney Amoy Gilding-Bourne urged the court to grant Clarke bail, noting that she had no previous convictions, had cooperated with the police, accepted responsibility, and was remorseful. Denying the application, Chief Magistrate Ian Weekes ordered a pre-sentencing report and remanded the first-time offender to Dodds Prison until May 21.
