Barbados Public Workers’ Co-operative Credit Union Limited (BPWCCUL) marked a milestone with style as the Belmont Road Branch transformed into a vibrant hub of festivities for the organisation’s 55th anniversary.

From live performances to wellness treats, the celebrations underscored the credit union’s commitment to its members and the wider community.

Throughout the day, all BPWCCUL locations hosted a special member appreciation event for their clients, which included massages, food sampling, and special performances from local artists.

Acting branch operations officer Nicole Jean-Paul spoke with Barbados TODAY on the significance of the event at the Keith Bourne Complex on Belmont Road.

“Today, we are celebrating 55 years, and that is 55 years of excellence, empowering our nation, strengthening communities, and building a solid foundation for independence,” she said. “Today, we have karaoke. We have some cultural presentations. We have Mole, we have RPB, we have Bruce Lee in the house. We’re also doing some food sampling, we have plenty of giveaways, health checks, we have some massages happening, we have a photo booth . . . we have so many things happening here today, it’s just a hype of activity that we have going on today for our members and those in our community.”

At the credit union’s Belmont Road headquarters, Mole and his frequent collaborator Brucelee Almighty serenaded the crowd with all of their hits, including a few teases for the upcoming Crop Over season.

Jean-Paul noted that the anniversary celebration extends beyond just one day, stating that the commemorative season began with a church service and will continue with several other events throughout the course of 2025.

She added: “We also have our ever-popular Olive Trotman Memorial Lecture that’s upcoming. We have a very vibrant members market. We have a high-energy sports day, and that is for the staff and the family members. We’re also having a network of corporate mix and mingle, and we do encourage all of our members and our staff to come out and celebrate this great milestone.” (SB)
