(GP) FacebookTwitterLinkedinWhatsappEmail 96 Twenty-four young semi-finalists selected their numbers on Thursday morning at the media launch for the upcoming Scotiabank Junior Monarch at Scotiabank in Warrens, St Michael, all of whom are ready to compete for that coveted crown. With over 40 entries receivedโmore than half in the traditional calypso category and 16 in the soca categoryโthe field was eventually narrowed to 24 semi-finalists and one reserve.ย Kevin Moore, a producer at the National Cultural Foundation (NCF), declared that this yearโs competition is not to be missed, โas our young calypsonians gear up to showcase their talents while preserving a rich part of our cultureโ. He highlighted that the competitors, between the ages of seven and 18, include seven newcomers from 17 schools, including two private schools. Moore said they have been consistently getting ready for their first public performance of the season at the first tent scheduled for Saturday at the Queenโs Park Steel Shed, at 6 p.m. โThe offerings this year are of a high calibre and promise to continue to improve on the high quality presented previously,โ said Moore. โThey worked hard through the rehearsals, and intense mentorship sessions have begun.โ NCFโs Chief Cultural Officer Andrea Wells. (GP) Moore also mentioned that the Scotiabank Junior Monarch developmental programme would provide each participant with training and coaching in stage presence, vocal techniques, basic music business, and financial planning. Canโt stop his roll That mentorship will be ongoing with veterans like Red Plastic Bag, TC, Ian Webster, Mac Fingall, Dawn-Lisa Callender-Smith, and Lisa Howell, who will all โshare their insights and advice for the artistsโ growth through the mentorship process.โ Furthermore, this year, a group of four young music educators, performers, and entertainment management experts, led by Paul Forde, will also be part of a team of external coordinators to support these young entertainers. NCFโs Chief Cultural Officer Andrea Wells, who also spoke at the launch, added that the Foundation was especially proud of the efforts to reach students who may not have access to in-school music teams: โThrough our junior mentors and the remote support system, we are ensuring that no talent is left behind.
