Barbados’ Mount Gay is the subject of the second episode of a ground-breaking global documentary series, Drink: A Look Inside the Glass.

Now available on streaming platforms including Apple TV, Prime Video, Tubi and Roku, the episode offers an exclusive and captivating look into the world’s oldest running rum distillery and its rich rum-making tradition, celebrating the unparalleled craftsmanship and founding heritage of Mount Gay.

Antoine Couvreur, managing director at Mount Gay said, “We are thrilled that Mount Gay has been chosen to represent rum on the global stage. Not only does Drink celebrate Barbados as the birthplace of rum, but it shines a light on the passion and craftsmanship that goes into every drop of Mount Gay.

“I strongly encourage the world to join us on our journey on-screen with Drink, and even pair your viewing with a glass of Mount Gay to bask in a fully immersive experience. We welcome persons across the globe to our island daily and, through this episode, we cherish the occasion to take Barbados to them.”

Created by three Canadian brothers, the documentary series marks a pioneering first in the world of drinks and entertainment. The Freeman brothers and co-creator filmmakers shared their sentiments on the release, when Brad Freeman said, “Creating the show felt like a dream, allowing us to combine traditional documentary style with modern cinematic techniques for a true adventure.”

Ryan Freeman added, “We wanted viewers to feel immersed in each location, which is why we filmed in 8K and used wide-angle lenses and 360 audio to capture every detail . . . we hope the show inspires curiosity and exploration, letting people experience different cultures and places from their own homes.”

Drink explores Mount Gay’s centuries-old heritage, from its founding roots to its continued innovation in the art of distillation. Through the lens of Drink, viewers gain exclusive behind-the-scenes access at Mount Gay. From meeting the people and hands that make the spirit, to witnessing the meticulous process that has defined Mount Gay’s award-winning and internationally loved rums for over 320 years.

Unveiling the simplicity of Mount Gay’s three ingredients, viewers are taken on an age-old journey through Caribbean time and culture, where they get to discover up close the traditional double copper pot and copper column stills that distil the world’s favourite rums—from the category-defining Mount Gay XO enjoyed around the world for more than 30 years, to the iconic Eclipse, the signature addition to any cocktail, with a recipe that is more than a century old.

Shot on historic land at the Mount Gay Estate, the series also highlights Mount Gay’s dedication to sustainable practices from soil to sip, underscoring its vision of environmental stewardship and carbon neutrality.

A special focus is given to Mount Gay’s limited edition Single Estate Series, launched at the end of 2023, which celebrates the unique terroir of Barbados, spotlighting the Mount Gay Estate’s sugar cane harvested, processed and distilled on-site. Mount Gay’s Single Estate Series is a testament to the distillery’s commitment to showcasing the exceptional qualities of its local ingredients, a process meticulously overseen by Master Blender Trudiann Branker, Barbados’ first female Master Blender.
