SSA Public Relations Officer Carl Alf Padmore stated that the Authority is working “assiduously to rectify this problem.” “This backlog is due in part to the work stoppage which transpired over the last ten days,” he explained, adding that the Emancipation Day and Grand Kadooment Day holidays also contributed to the delay. Last month, SSA staff walked off the job, expressing frustration over unresolved issues related to incentive pay. Although the National Union of Public Workers and SSA management met in an effort to resolve the dispute, lingering dissatisfaction among workers meant a full return to normal operations was delayed. The matter has been settled, but a trail of uncollected garbage has been left behind in several communities. Padmore noted that the delay in collections would take time to fix.
