Sagicor General encourages homeowners to exercise vigilance this Christmas

As the Christmas season approaches and homes begin to sparkle with lights, decorations and increased household activity, Sagicor General Insurance Inc. is reminding Barbadians to prioritise safe practices and proper maintenance to help prevent accidents during the holidays.

With many households installing additional lighting, plugging in multiple devices, hosting gatherings and preparing holiday meals, the leading insurance provider is encouraging homeowners to be mindful of electrical load, appliance upkeep and general home safety. Improper use of decorations, worn electrical cords, overloaded sockets, chemicals and neglected maintenance can pose risks that are often overlooked in the excitement of the season.

Manager of Direct Sales and Support Services at Sagicor General Donelle Belgrave-Young noted that simple preventative measures can go a long way toward keeping families and property safe.

“The Christmas period is one of the most festive and active times of the year and with that comes added strain on our bodies and minds but also our homes, electrically, structurally and even environmentally,” she said. “By taking a few moments to check that lights are functioning safely, circuits aren’t overloaded, appliances are in good working order and general maintenance is up to date, we can enjoy the season with comfort.”
