The sub-committee – comprising Jamaica, St Kitts and Nevis, and St Lucia – said Caricom remains firmly committed to the fundamental principles of international law and multilateralism as enshrined in the United Nations Charter, including respect for state sovereignty and territorial integrity, as well as human dignity. The assurance came hours after the wider grouping, the Conference of Heads of Government of Caricom, met on Saturday to discuss the situation in Venezuela, which the regional body described as being of grave concern. The bureau reiterated its call for peaceful dialogue through diplomatic channels to ensure Venezuela’s stability, good governance, democracy and prosperity for its people, and said Caricom remains ready to support all such efforts in a spirit of cooperation and mutual respect. It added that the bureau would continue to closely monitor the evolving situation and its wider implications for the community, including the potential impact on economic activity, particularly air travel.
