Police are investigating the fatal shooting of a man near the Usain Bolt Sports Complex at Paradise Park (formerly Lazaretto) in St Michael on Sunday morning and are appealing for witnesses to come forward.

Police Public Affairs and Communications Officer, acting Inspector Ryan Brathwaite, said the Police Operations Control received a report from a female caller at 11:16 a.m., stating that a man had been shot while seated in a vehicle near the sports facility.

โ€œPolice responded to the area and found the lifeless body of a male seated in a vehicle. A medical doctor visited the scene, examined the body, and pronounced death,โ€ he said.

According to preliminary investigations, the victim had driven into the area earlier that morning when he was approached by a man wearing a black t-shirt and black three-quarter pants. Gunshots were heard, and the suspect was seen fleeing the scene. Inspector Brathwaite said police are seeking anyone who may have been travelling alone along the West Coast road near the Usain Bolt Complex between 10:50 a.m. and 11:15 a.m., and who may have seen the incident.

He also urged motorists equipped with dashcams in the area to provide any footage that could assist the investigation. Members of the public with information are asked to contact Crime Stoppers at 1-800-8477, the police emergency line at 211, or the Black Rock Police Station at 417-7500 or 417-7501. (SZB)
