Blackman and Gollop retain NAPSAC titles in dominant fashion

Blackman and Gollop Primary fended off every challenge to defend both their titles in the Brunswick, Tropical Rhythms, Always, Ryan Brathwaite Zone of the Chef Foods NAPSAC Championships at the Usain Bolt Complex on Thursday.

It marked the second consecutive day a school had achieved the double, following Hilda Skeene Primary’s feat on Wednesday.

The defending champions retained each title by a commanding margin of at least 100 points. In the girls’ category, Blackman and  Gollop powered to 325.50 points, well ahead of Wilkie Cumberbatch Primary on 224.50, with Ellerton Primary taking third place on 132 points.

Fourth place went to Lawrence T Gay Memorial on 108 points, which was just ahead of St Catherine’s Primary on 102, with Gordon Greenidge Primary sixth on 78.50 points.

Seventh place went to A.DaCosta Edwards Primary on 76 points, with St Mark’s Primary eighth on 60.50 and Half Moon Forte Primary ninth on six points.

Blackman and Gollop were even more dominant in the boys competition, where they cruised to victory once again on 374 .50 points, well ahead of second placed Wilkie Cumberbatch Primary on 200 points and third placed Lawrence T Gay Memorial on 139.

St Catherine’s Primary was fourth among the boys on 105 points, with Ellerton Primary close behind in fifth on 104.5 and Gordon Greenidge Primary sixth on 91 points.

Seventh place went to A. DaCosta Edwards Primary with 68.50 points, while St Mark’s Primary finished eighth on 46.50 points and Half Moon Forte Primary ninth on two points.

Already a star at the NAPSAC level but having transferred to Blackman and Gollop this year, Under 13 competitor Nathan Philips was named Victor Ludorum, following wins in the 100m, 200m and 400m events.

Itege-Esat Griffith of Wilkie Cumberbatch was dominant in the Under 11 Division, with wins in the 100m, 200m and 300m events, seeing her being named Victrix Ludorum.

Eighteen records were broken, with Phillips clocking 13.12 seconds in the 100m, to obliterate the old mark of 13.45. He also broke the 200m record, erasing the old mark of 26.97 seconds, as he sped to victory in 26.80.

Another of the day’s records fell in the Open Girls High Jump, where Zuri Stoute of  Wilkie Cumberbatch leapt 1.28m, to better the old mark of 1.25m.

She described the feat as lots of fun and moments later, left the infield and stepped on to the track, to ease to victory in the first section of the Under 13 Girls 400m.

NAPSAC Zonal action concludes on Friday with competition in the Rubis Andrea Blackett Zone.
