Rally Club honours its competitors and volunteers

Several champions and volunteers were rewarded for their commitment to motor sport when the Barbados Rally Club (BRC) held its annual prize giving ceremony last Thursday.

Jonathan Still, who marked his retirement after more than 25 years as one of motor sport’s crowd favourites, received the coveted Richard Roett Memorial Trophy.

Meanwhile, the Rookie of the Year award went to Sebastian Thompson, who finished fourth in Clubman 2 in his BimmaCup and 12th overall of the 63 drivers in the final points table.

Leslie Alleyne and Chris O’Neal were crowned champion driver and navigator respectively in the Chefette MudDogs Safari Championship, while Alexander and Chelsea Gill were Class B Champions. Chelsea was also highest-placed female navigator, while her sister Rebecca Clarke won the trophy for highest-placed female driver.

Edward Corbin collected the award for champion driver for the third time and SuperModified 1, while Rhett Watson won the 2wd championship for a record fourth time as well as the SM2 class. Jamaica’s Kyle Gregg claimed his first BRC titles as 4wd and FIA R5 champion to add to his win in last year’s BCIC Rally Barbados.

With a presentation to Stage Commander Dexter Griffith, the club recognised the sacrifices and commitment of volunteers who play a major role in motor sport, not only during events but in the weeks and months of planning.

There was a family feel in Autocross, too, where Geoffrey Ullyett was champion driver and son Daniel claimed the junior and Motoring News Rookie titles, while Sameisha Williams was ladies champion.(PR)
