Sealy strikes more squash gold in Canada

Fresh off his win in the USA Masters in New York last month, Mark Sealy struck gold again when he captured the 60+ division at the Canadian Masters over the weekend.

Playing at the Arbutus Club in Vancouver, Sealy, the number one seed,  received a bye in the round of 16 before going on to dominate Quebec’s Yves Tremblay in straight sets 13-11, 11-7, 11-3. 

In the semis Sealy faced hard-hitting lefty Marion Gagnon, the number four seed, also from Quebec, with the Barbadian once again coming away with a straight sets victory 11-6, 11-4, 11-5. 

The win set up a repeat of the 2025 final with the highly rated second seed Trent Hasse of Ontario. 

Sealy was on fire in the first two games exposing his opponent’s movement winning 11-6, 11-5. 

However, Haase responded in the third game, showing better movement to win 11-4 against an unsettled looking Sealy. 

But Sealy regained his composure In the ensuing game, which he dominated from start to finish on his way to closing out the match 11-4 and claim his fifth Canadian Masters’ title.

“I played really well in the first two but lost my length in the third, tried to attack too early and he took advantage. So in the break, I told myself I have to hit higher to the back and then attack to the front. I was pleased to take an early lead and close it out in four games,” Sealy said after the win.

It marks the first time Sealy has won both US and Canadian titles in the same season. 

“I’m really happy to have won both. Been putting in a lot of movement training and improved my racket work so really pleased to get the results. 

“Thanks to my team Peter Nicol, Nicol Bunyan, Karen Meakins, Shawn Simpson, Red Zen Pilates and Surfside Wellness for all their support and hard work,” he said.

Sealy returns to the island on Tuesday.
