Abergower Ltd., a UK-based digitisation company, and The University of the West Indies (The UWI) have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) that will help advance digital transformation across the campuses and boost student innovation.

The MOU brings to a close more than a year of sustained dialogue with the company, which has a regional head office in Barbados.

The agreement establishes a framework for collaboration focused on digitally-enabled teaching, research, and innovation.

The two institutions will work to strengthen research and development activities aligned with real-world industry needs, explore opportunities for commercialisation and technology transfer, and support the development of future-ready talent through collaborative education and training initiatives.

Aligned with the OneUWI Digital Transformation Programme, the partnership is designed to promote deeper learning, strengthen institutional relationships, and create new opportunities for innovation, applied research, and commercial engagement.

It is also expected to contribute to Barbadosโ€™ ongoing efforts to establish itself as a hub for innovation and knowledge-driven enterprise.

The MOU was formally developed and endorsed by Deputy Principal of The UWI, Cave Hill Campus, Professor Winston Moore, and Chief Executive Officer of Abergower Ltd., Robin Prior, both of whom were instrumental in shaping the framework that emphasises collaboration, knowledge exchange, and long-term value creation.

โ€œThis agreement represents a powerful alignment between industry and academia.

Together we are creating a foundation for innovation that will not only benefit our organisations but also contribute to the longterm prosperity of Barbados,โ€ said Prior.

Professor Winston Moore spoke of the value of the partnership to The University and its stakeholders.

โ€œThis partnership reflects our commitment to applying academic excellence to realworld challenges. By working closely with Abergower Ltd, we can accelerate innovation and deliver tangible benefits for our students, our partners and our country.โ€

The MOU provides a structured yet flexible platform for ongoing collaboration that will allow the partnership to evolve as new opportunities emerge. Both Abergower Ltd and The UWI are committed to ensuring that this partnership delivers meaningful and measurable outcomes.
