Holder-Edghill set for training stint

Barbadian Kemar Holder-Edghill departed the island on Friday for a training exercise, which he hopes will enhance his ability as a triathlon coach.

The one-year course is divided into an online segment, which Holder-Edghill has already completed, with the in person studies to be completed in Montreal, Canada.

A physical education teacher at the Daryll Jordan Secondary School,  Holder-Edghill also coaches rugby and track and field. 

He said with a growing number of local triathletes, he was hopeful his stint would allow him to further elevate the sport.

Holder-Edghill says he was made aware of the course through president  of the Barbados Federation of Island Triathletes, Dr Garth McIntyre.

“So when the Barbados Olympic Association sent out the information, Garth was like, Kemo, do you want to do this? I was like, sure, no problem.

I had to write a letter stating why I should be chosen and then I had an interview. I believe my advantage came because I am involved in more than one sport that we are looking to develop in Barbados,” he said.

The coach said his objective on completing the course is to best develop triathlon by building its numbers even more consistently.

The training is being facilitated by Olympic Solidarity and conducted in Canada by PAISAC, a coach training centre based in Montreal and Lausanne. It offers programs for National Olympic Committee coaches from the Caribbean, Africa, Asia and South America, which are fully funded by the Olympic Solidarity Coach Scholarship Program.

Previous scholarship recipients included Jarad Murray and Althea Belgrave.
