Marking the anniversary, staff of the Barbados Light and Power Company (BL&P) opened its week of activities by joining the congregation of the Dalkeith Methodist Church for a thanksgiving service on Sunday. The choice of venue was significant, as Dalkeith Methodist was the first church in Barbados to receive electricity. Some of the BL&P staff in attendance at the church service. Noting the theme ‘Blueprints of Excellence’, HR business partner Sonia Haynes-Collymore said that this reflected some of the values shared with the religious institution, including those of building strong relationships, caring for people, prioritising well-being, and striving for excellence. Welcoming the group, church member Antoine Williams highlighted the importance of the company, noting that it had been a long-time social partner within the community and wider Barbadian landscape. Later this week, the BL&P will host a variety of events to continue the commemorations, including an Employee Appreciation Day, a time capsule ceremony, a football tournament, and an awards ceremony to recognise outstanding contributions to the company’s long history of service.
