Winning start for Barbados at FIBA AMERICUP pre-qualifiers

The senior national men’s basketball team is off to a winning start at the FIBA AMERICUP 2029 pre-qualifiers in Guyana.

The Bajans faced Cayman Islands in their opening game on Wednesday, and made the best possible start by cruising to an 89-54 win at the Cliff Anderson Sports Hall.

Barbados led 19-10 at the end of the first quarter, before extending their lead to 47-19 at half time. The team continued their dominance on the way to a 71-35 lead at the end of the third quarter before going on to close out the game.

Barbados is competing in Group B alongside Haiti, Grenada, Cayman Islands and St Vincent and the Grenadines, with only the group winner advancing to the next stage of qualification.

The qualifiers run from July 8–12.
