Premier League basketball title to be decided in game five

The Barbados Amateur Basketball Association Premier League finals will be decided in a winner-take-all Game 5 after defending champions Burger King Clapham Bulls defeated C.A.M. Smart Assurance City United Celtics 91-83 on Tuesday night at the Barbados Community College Gymnasium.

Facing elimination, the Bulls kept their title defence alive by leveling the best-of-five series at 2-2 with a composed performance against the President’s Cup champions.

The result also maintained the trend of a closely contested finals, with neither team managing to win back-to-back games in the series.

The decisive fifth game will be played on Wednesday at the Barbados Community College Gymnasium, where the league champion will be crowned.

Bulls made a fast start in the do or die encounter, as they charged to a 31-17 first quarter lead.

Celtics refused to panic however and a productive second quarter saw them narrow the deficit to 42-48 at half time.  

The game mimicked the series in the third quarter, as another decisive surge saw Bulls pulling ahead 70-55, before they held on to close out the game with relative ease.

Kyrone Alexander’s consistent series for Bulls continued, as he led the way with 24 points and six rebounds, while Rasheed Maynard added 23 points and seven rebounds. Bulls also got 15 points from Simeon Maynard and 11 from Rahiim Gittens.

For the Celtics, Theo Greenidge had a game high 27 points in a losing cause, while Kiserian Adams added 17 and Derion Hurley 15.
