West Indies head coach Daren Sammy has praised Test captain Roston Chase for his leadership during the regional sideโ€™s recent Test campaign.

His comments came after Pakistan defeated the West Indies by eight wickets in the second Test at Queenโ€™s Park Oval in Trinidad. The result left the two-match series tied 1-1.

It followed the West Indiesโ€™ 1-0 series win over Sri Lanka in July.

โ€œI think the most satisfying thing has been the leadership of Roston Chase. In all the difficult times for both of us, his communication and understanding of what we are trying to achieve has been key. Roston has never lost his voice in the dressing room.โ€

Sammy added: โ€œHis highs are not too high and his lows are not too low. He remains a leader. Itโ€™s good to see his individual performances as well. My coaching staff continues to work hard and Iโ€™m really proud of the progress that we have made.โ€

Reviewing the series against Sri Lanka and Pakistan in the ICC World Test Championship, Sammy said the team trusted the process.

โ€œWe had an excellent series against Sri Lanka. With both bat and ball we attained some milestones that we had not achieved in a long time.

โ€œAgainst Pakistan we enjoyed the series. But the look on everyoneโ€™s faces was one of disappointment, knowing what we should have done.

โ€œI really want to commend all the players and the staff for trusting the process, understanding what success meant for us as a group and not listening to the noise on the outside.โ€

Sammy said the batting unit continued to produce important runs throughout the summer. However, he believes there is still room for improvement in the second innings.

He also praised the bowlers.

โ€œWe keep getting 20 wickets in the Test match and thatโ€™s something Iโ€™m proud of. I can see the progress. Iโ€™m looking forward to finishing the year strongly in Bangladesh.โ€

Sammy said winning that Test series would be the icing on the cake.

โ€œWe explained to the guys what the goals are. Itโ€™s important that we understand what weโ€™re trying to achieve and how weโ€™re going to do it.โ€
