Teen remanded after admitting robbery, theft

An 18-year-old labourer has been remanded to Dodds Prison until September 9 after admitting to robbery and theft charges in the No. 1 District ‘A’ Magistrates’ Court.

Tashon Ricardo Omari King, of Thorne’s Gap, Land’s End, St Michael, pleaded guilty to stealing a laptop valued $3 000, 10 keys valued $100, and two gate openers valued $200 belonging to Island Developments Limited. He also stole a bag valued $400, a laptop charger valued $200, a cellular phone valued $3 400, a phone charger valued $60, a pair of earphones valued $800, a pencil case valued $15, and three notebooks valued $40 belonging to an employee between July 29 and 30 with a total value of $8 610.

He also confessed that on June 30, he robbed Rudolph Haynes of a bag valued $84, a cellular phone valued $90 and $250 cash, with a total value of $424.

King was not required to plead to the indictable offence that on April 30, he robbed Nadeen Haynes of a $400 handbag, US$8 000 (BDS$16 000), $200, three Coach purses valued at $1 390, Ray Ban sunglasses valued at $300 and five visa debit cards valued $250. 

Sergeant Reginald Blackman objected to bail, citing grounds that King was likely to reoffend, the need to protect society, the allegation that violence was used and the strength of the evidence.

Acting Chief Magistrate Douglas Frederick remanded King until September 9.

The court will hear the facts on the charges to which King pleaded guilty during his next court appearance.
