The Prime Minister of St Kitts and Nevis, Dr Terrance Drew, has travelled to Martinique for specialised medical observation after being admitted to hospital on Sunday with mild discomfort, nausea, and a headache.

On Sunday, the prime minister, a medical doctor, went to the Joseph N France General Hospital in the capital, Basseterre, complaining of mild discomfort, nausea, and a headache, the Cabinet Secretariat said in an official statement on his health early on Monday.

The secretariat said he was immediately admitted for observation and a thorough clinical evaluation.

The medical team and specialists at the JNF General Hospital attended to him over an 18-hour period.

Following comprehensive analysis and diagnostic reviews, his treating physicians are satisfied with his overall condition, confirming that he remained awake, alert, and stable, the statement added.

But it said that, out of an abundance of caution and based on the medical teamโ€™s observations since his admission, doctors advised that Dr Drew be sent overseas for โ€œspecialised observation and precautionary monitoring.โ€

A source close to the administration told Barbados TODAY on Tuesday that the St Kitts and Nevis leader was flown to Martinique late on Monday.

The Cabinet Secretariat has called on citizens to keep their leader in prayer for a swift and full recovery.

The country was also assured that government business would continue without interruption and that citizens would be kept updated on Dr Drewโ€™s progress.ย

Dr Drew, the two-island federationโ€™s fourth prime minister since independence in 1983, took office in August 2022 after leading the St Kitts-Nevis Labour Party to victory in the general election.ย

A medical doctor specialising in internal medicine, he previously worked at the Joseph N France General Hospital and in private practice. He also serves as the federal minister for finance, national security, citizenship and immigration, health, human resource management and social security.
