The public is being urged to guard against heat exhaustion, dehydration, heat stroke and fainting as hot conditions are expected to persist across Barbados through September and October.

According to the Barbados Meteorological Services (BMS) temperatures have been reaching 32ยฐC to 33ยฐC in parts of the south, east and north, while western and urban areas have recorded temperatures in the mid-30s, with apparent temperatures approaching 45ยฐC.Warmer-than-normal nights are also providing little relief, increasing the risk of heat-related illness, particularly among vulnerable people and outdoor workers.

โ€œWarmer than average nighttime temperatures are doing very little to relieve this discomfort. While occasional shower activity may bring some temporary relief with moderate breezes from time to time, these high temperatures are expected to persist throughout the remainder of the heat season (September into November),โ€ the BMS stated.

The public is advised to stay hydrated, wear light clothing and avoid direct sunlight during the hottest hours of the day.ย  (BMS/BT)
