St Philip man granted $230 000 bail on drug importation charges

Bail has been set at $230 000 for a St Philip man who appeared in court on charges related to the alleged importation of cocaine and cannabis valued at more than $1 million.

Ché Devonte Alleyne, 28, of Duncans Circle, Windward Gardens, was not required to plead to indictable charges of possession, possession with intent to supply, trafficking and importing 3.3 kilogrammes of cocaine on September 17.

He was also not required to answer charges of possession, possession with intent to supply, trafficking and importing 135.5 kilogrammes of cannabis on the same date.

The estimated value of the cocaine was $165 000, and the cannabis was valued at $867 200.

There was no objection to bail in the No. 2 District ‘A’ Magistrates’ Court from prosecutor Sergeant Kenmore Philips, who asked that stringent conditions be imposed.

Attorney Lesley Cargil-Straker said her client was willing to comply, and bail was set.

However, there was no surety available to sign for the full $230 000 bail amount and the accused was remanded until October 19.
